MotoGP: The Spanish GP Could Get Interesting ? Valentino Rossi Second Fastest in Warm Up as Rain Hits Jerez

We knew as the rain hit Jerez this weeks that the weather would be a significant factor at the Spanish GP, and the added moisture on the track has already affted the MotoGP riders as they took to the track for their warm-up session this morning. If you placed your money on Casey Stoner to win the Spanish GP, your money might be safe, as the Australian is still eclipsing the field with his lap ...

MotoGP: Crashes Shake-Up Qualifying at Jerez

Qualifying for the Spanish GP got underway today under the sunny, but windy skies of Jerez, Spain. Unsurprising to just about anyone, the Repsol Hondas of Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa were on the top of the time sheets, with local Jorge Lorenzo completing the front row and only 0.16 seconds off the qualifying pace. While the rank and order surprises few, all eyes will be on the latter stages of tomorrow’s race to see ...

2011 Jerez MotoGP FP3 Result: Pedrosa Dominates Honda Whitewash

Dani Pedrosa may have a problem with his shoulder over the length of a 45 minute race, but it is not impeding the Repsol Honda rider from being fast. Pedrosa scorched to a lap of 1'38.865, three tenths under the race lap record, and about the same distance ahead of his teammate Casey Stoner. Marco Simoncelli completed a Honda clean sweep of the top three, the San Carlo Gresini rider a third of a second quicker than Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo. Randy de Puniet was the best Ducati rider, with Valentino Rossi not far behind in 6th.

F1 and MotoGP to Merge

As many of you will have spotted, this was in fact an April Fool's story. As far as we know, MotoGP and F1 will not be merging, and if they were going to, then they certainly wouldn't use April 1st to make such an announcement. The story was concocted and (brilliantly) realized by one of our contributing editors, Rusty Bucket, whose clever writing managed to fool a lot of people, including one or two who should have known better! All compliments on the piece aimed at me (David Emmett) are unwarranted, and I have passed on all your compliments to the writer. Normal service has now been resumed...

In a surprise press conference held during the regular pre-race event for the MotoGP round in Jerez, Spain today, the following headline topped the shocking press release:

"Due to the economic pressures of the global financial downturn, and as an opportunity to bring together the World's premier prototype motor racing series, Carmelo Ezpeleta and Bernie Ecclestone have today announced the landmark merger of their two organizations to create the ultimate racing series: MotoF1."

MotoGP unites to help Japan

To support those affected by the recent earthquake in Japan, the MotoGP community has produced a special shirt signed by all 17 MotoGP riders, with the message 'We are for Japan'.

The shirt will be available at a range of circuits this year, as well as on the official MotoGP website, and costs 20 Euros. The money raised will be presented to a humanitarian organisation during the Japan Grand Prix on October 2nd, 2011.

Jorge Lorenzo: ?We must give our maximum support to Japan at a moment such as this. Japan is already a strong country that has always demonstrated its ability to overcome adversity. A strong embrace to all Japanese people and fans of motorcycling who live there.?

Casey Stoner: "We considered the floods in Australia at the beginning of the year a huge disaster, but after the events we've seen in Japan - it's beyond what we can comprehend. Having heard some of the stories from colleagues in Honda and seeing the coverage on the news, it's devastating to hear what they are going through and our hearts and thoughts are with everyone in Japan. I hope they can find the courage to keep fighting and get through this period to help rebuild their lives".

Valentino Rossi: ?This is a very tough moment for everybody but we support Japan and we are with our Japanese friends. We encourage them not to give up, and I wish good luck to everybody from me, and from all my team.?
