Formula 1 PETRONAS Malaysia Grand Prix Circuit of Sepang 8-10 April 2011. For the first time in Malaysia’s F1 history, race cars at the Malaysian Super Series (MSS) would be sharing the track with the Formula 1 mean machines during the Sepang F1 race weekend.
MSS, which celebrates its 10th edition this year, has received a major shot in the arm after the F1 license holder – Formula One Management (FOM) – has approved its inclusion as a support race at the 2011 Formula 1 PETRONAS Malaysia Grand Prix in April.
History : Malaysia has long had ambitions to join the countries hosting International Motorsport and the country now has a circuit worthy of hosting both the F1 and FIM Motorcycle Grand Prix.
First included in the Formula One World Championship in 1999, the Malaysian Grand Prix is held at the hyper-modern Sepang International Circuit at Sepang, Malaysia, near Kuala Lumpur. This circuit offers action on and off the track, and the weather can vary from tropical storm to extreme heat promising spectacular results. And it is a reference in terms of standards for all other circuits since the beginning.
The Sepang Circuit has been specifically designed to encourage overtaking, being very wide and containing at least four slow corners following long straights. The other 10 corners are medium- to high speed. Those characteristics lead to the brakes having a hard time, while cars also need plenty of traction to accelerate away.
Since 2001, the Malaysian Grand Prix has moved from the end of the schedule to the beginning. This has led to unpredictable results as teams and drivers get to grips with their new equipment.

Running MotoMatters.com is the second most rewarding thing I do as a person, second only to my marriage with my wife. It is a source of intense pleasure, pride and satisfaction, of the response and appreciation we receive, as well as the support from both inside and outside the racing community.
The thing that I am most proud of, however, has very little to do with me. Though I do my best to provide intelligent, thoughtful articles, I am all too often put to shame by the quality of the comments. So many people who contribute comments to the stories do so with such wit, intelligence and clarity of thought that it is truly humbling to read the comments and see the gaps in my own thinking and reporting. The comments are a constant reminder that I will have to up my game if I am to be anywhere near the 50th percentile in terms of knowledge and intelligence. They are also a rich source of inspiration, and I steal freely from the ideas discussed when researching stories.
I am not alone in my assessment. I have had several of the biggest names in the paddock compliment me on the intelligence of the comments, and the extraordinarily high level of the debate on the site. Compliments have come from riders, journalists, team managers, race officials, people are impressed most of all not by what I write, but what you write.
