2011 Estoril MotoGP Sunday Round Up - Racing Relieves The Parts Other Activities Just Can't Reach

We're finally racing again, and the deafening roar of the MotoGP bikes has silenced the whining that has been emanating from the paddock over the past few days, at least for the moment. Instead of sniping about who had said what about whom, there was an actual contest at Estoril. Even the weather didn't intervene, at least, not once the warmup was finished.

The race was hardly a thriller - the electronics necessitated by the combination of highly-strung 800cc engines and meager 21 liters of fuel have been fatal to racing excitement, for the most part - but it was certainly a fascinating intellectual exercise, and there was much to be learned from Portuguese Grand Prix. The trouble is, of course, that those lessons are most rewarding to the committed student of the sport, the sterile racing now rather too esoteric for the casual fan.

Estoril – After Marco Simoncelli race at Estoril only four corners until finally he crashes. Gresini Honda’s rider was also mentioned there is an error on his motorcycle tire.

In the race on Sunday (05/01/2011), Simoncelli became one of the first driver crashes. Together with him, come out of the race as well as Hector Barbera has not even finished the first lap.

Though Simoncelli felt confident he could on the podium after starting the race from position two. For failing those he apologized to the team.

“I apologize for this failure because this time we have a chance to get on the podium, even win,” he said at the official MotoGP site.

“Maybe I made a little mistake. However, I think this is a mistake on cold tires on the left side, because at the end of Turn 1 we tend to drive the motor to the left to accelerate. It was there the first time I lost the rear.”

“So, on the other corner I started to pay more attention, especially in Turn 4.”

“I passed the corner with a higher gear to make the motor became a more and more refined engine. However, in the middle of the corner, without gas, I crash. There’s nothing I can do,” he said.
