Morais feeling upbeat about rest of season

104_r04_morais_gridSheridan Morais has so far failed to live up to his and his fans’ expectations, but this has partly been down to a dose of misfortune that has prevented him from finishing on the podium. The Johannesburg, South Africa rider was having an excellent race at Monza, in the second round of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup, but he crashed on oil deposited by the S1000RR of Sylvain Barrier, bringing an end to a promising race. Before his crash the Kawasaki Lorenzini by Leoni rider was battling with several other riders for the podium and this is a clear sign that the young South African’s package is a valid one and that he can now aim for better results from the Misano round onwards.

You had a fantastic weekend in Monza until bad luck ruined your plans. Are you more disappointed about the result itself or the fact that you could stay with the leading group?
“Yes, all weekend Team Lorenzini Kawasaki and I worked hard and in the race it was paying off until Barrier had some bad luck with his engine failure. This bad luck was passed on to me when I crashed in his oil but that’s racing… I am disappointed with the result as we were fighting for the podium! “

Despite what happened, you showed a lot of improvement from the Assen Round. Are you and the team heading in the right direction?
“We are definitely making great progress as we learn the bike and test different things! We have made big improvements since Assen and when the bad luck is not there then we are looking to win races.”

How competitive is the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup this year?
“The Superstock 1000 class is extremely competitive as all of the riders are looking to make it big and move up to the premier classes. Also the manufacturers count on this class to sell their road going superbikes so this adds to the level of the class.”

The next round is Misano, another home track for your team…
“Misano is coming up and with it being the teams other home round I am looking to please them with a great result. As I type this e-mail I am at the gym and then going to the moto-cross track in preparation for the Misano round….!”

Sachsenring 2009 MotoGP race analysis

While the weather had produced torrential downpours thoughout the preamble to this GP, it stayed dry for the action in Germany. As the riders lined up on the grid, there was a real feeling of anticipation as Rossi and Lorenzo, so close through practice until that awesome final qualifying lap from Valentino, pulled up next [...]

It was a freakish race - one which I am still trying to get my head around, let alone write up! Because of the unusual podium, points were scarce this week with many people striking out. Only one person scored podium points: @leighberwick with his 3rd place for de Puniet. How you picked him out Leigh, [...]
