Sachsenring 2009 MotoGP race analysis

While the weather had produced torrential downpours thoughout the preamble to this GP, it stayed dry for the action in Germany. As the riders lined up on the grid, there was a real feeling of anticipation as Rossi and Lorenzo, so close through practice until that awesome final qualifying lap from Valentino, pulled up next [...]

Sachsenring tipping contest scores

A quiet week at the top of the standings, with @daveminella just inching away from the pack by a single point. Shouts out to @Brian_GP, @danzero and @ducatinewstoday for pulling off their Minellas. Had you guys been around earlier you would be pushing the top spots. The good news is, there is plenty of time [...]

Pedrosa Collarbone Update: Surgery Successful, Assen Still In Doubt

The news this morning that Dani Pedrosa was to undergo an operation to fix a loose fragment of bone in his collarbone came as a confirmation that there were further problems with the collarbone Pedrosa had had fixed after his crash with Marco Simoncelli at Le Mans. What caused the problem is unknown (despite the rumors in the Spanish and Italian press) but it required yet another operation, his third in 71 days on his collarbone.

This evening, the Repsol Honda team issued a press release (reproduced below), stating that the operation had been a success, and that Pedrosa would be starting his physical rehabiliation in two days' time. With action starting at the Dutch TT in Assen in just a week's time, that is very short notice for Pedrosa to be fit enough to ride again, and consequently, Pedrosa will make a decision in consultation with his doctors on riding early next week. If Pedrosa does not ride in Assen, the Repsol Honda team will be forced to replace him, Pedrosa having missed the previous two rounds at Barcelona and Silverstone. Hiroshi Aoyama is likely to replace the Spaniard, with Honda test rider Kousuke Akiyoshi coming in to take Aoyama's seat in the San Carlo Gresini Honda squad.

MotoGP Silverstone AirAsia British Grand Prix Race Live June 12, 2011

Casey Stoner dominates British MotoGP until the qualifying session and create a new lap record. He is now reflect for the race with high spirits, no matter how the conditions on the track later. If he manage to win at Silverstone, Stoner will record a third win streak this season. Reuters said, there is no longer the Honda rider who can do it since the era of Valentino Rossi in 2003.

With the starting position worse than in Catalunya, Simoncelli was pretty confident can achieve better results at Silverstone on Sunday. He immediately shot his first podium this season. "Here I have a better feeling with the bike than when in Barcelona. I feel ready to fight fight for podiums and victories,"said Simoncelli.

Jorge Lorenzo claimed to be surprised with a record made ??in the British MotoGP qualifying. Yamaha rider was also pleased with the progress that has been made??. In the free practice session, Lorenzo was struggling to match the Casey Stoner's pace. Lorenzo's practise lap is about one second slower than the Honda rider. However, he improved his performance in the qualifying session, and the result is 0.2 seconds off Stoner's pace. Lorenzo won the race at Silverstone last year. 24 years old spaniard currently still at the top of the riders standings with a score 98 points, seven points ahead Stoner.

Valentino Rossi admitted his difficulty in improving performance at Silverstone, so he will start from only P13 at the British MotoGP race. The rain also fell in the race he was expected to erode slightly behind. Last season, Rossi absent when the British MotoGP series were held at Silverstone. As a result, he admitted still unfamiliar with the circuit.

Cal Crutchlow is certain to miss the British MotoGP race. Crutchlow's team, Monster Yamaha Tech 3 expect their rider to be back in the Dutch MotoGP.

Crutchlow Has Surgery To Fix Collarbone, Assen Still Uncertain

The collarbone woes of the MotoGP paddock are on the mend. After Dani Pedrosa at Le Mans and Colin Edwards at Catalunya, Cal Crutchlow broke his collarbone during qualifying at Silverstone, crashing on cold tires and falling heavily on his shoulder. On Wednesday, Crutchlow finally underwent surgery to have his collarbone plated and fixed, after having been forced to wait while doctors examined a neck injury also caused by the fall. Doctors had suspected a fractured vertebra in his neck, but once CT scans shown no damage to the region, Crutchlow immediate went under the knife to have his collarbone plated.

Given the severity of the injury and the complications in his shoulder, Crutchlow's return for Assen is as yet uncertain. Crutchlow is still in a lot of pain, according to the press release, and with less than a week to go until racing resumes at Assen, he has little time for recovery. A decision will likely be made a day or so before the event is due to begin. In the event that Crutchlow does not ride, he is unlikely to be replaced, the list of available riders with the necessary experience being very short indeed.

Below is the press release from the Yamaha press office:
